The Jug and Leg Situation

Because your legs work harder when they are also carrying something.

What you need
Two gallon jugs or large filled Gatorade bottles, wall, chair for balance
No equipment? See the household guide →
The Rusty Robot — Full
Ankle circles, knee circles, hip circles — 10 each direction. Shoulder rolls. Arm circles. Then 2 minutes of Kitchen Parade. Your joints are about to do real work and they deserve a warning.
The Wide Sink
Feet wider than shoulder width, toes pointed slightly out. Hold one jug with both hands between your legs. Lower straight down keeping your chest up and knees tracking over your toes. The jug keeps you honest about depth.
Modification: Bodyweight only — no jug. Reduce foot width. Shallower range of motion. The wide stance itself is the exercise.
The Suitcase Carry
One jug in one hand only. Walk 20 steps. Switch hands. Walk back. Keep your torso upright and resist the urge to lean toward the weight. Your core is doing most of the work here.
Modification: Use a lighter item — a filled water bottle. Reduce steps. The asymmetric load is the exercise — any weight in one hand works.
The Big Step — Weighted
One jug in each hand at your sides. Step forward into a lunge. The front knee stays over the ankle. The added weight makes this significantly harder than the bodyweight version.
Modification: Bodyweight only. Shorter step range. Any forward step with good form counts.
The Invisible Chair
Back flat against the wall. Slide down. Hold. The jugs are put away for this one. Just you and the wall.
Modification: Shallower angle. Shorter hold. 15 seconds at good depth beats 45 seconds at a shallow angle.
Grocery Bag Walks — Heavy
Heaviest items you have. Laundry detergent, a loaded backpack, two gallon jugs. Walk 30 steps each direction. Your grip will be the limiting factor. That is correct — grip strength is the goal.
Modification: Lighter weight and shorter distance. Any weighted walk with shoulders down and core engaged is the full exercise.
The Hip Opener
3 minutes slow walking. Hip flexor stretch — one knee on floor, other foot forward, lean into it. Hold 20 seconds each side. Then wide-stance standing inner thigh stretch. Your inner thighs have earned this.
